Response to Video

What do you think the title of the video means?
I think that the title "Text is Linear" implies that with printed and written text there are certain limitations that going digital breaks free from. Information on paper can only be presented in a flat, 2-D way, and once it is written cannot really be altered to keep up with the ever changing times. In fact, this is shown almost immediately when just the words written down for the title can only be altered and moved around one they are taken digital.

How does Web 2.0 affect someone who is ready to enter the workforce?
Web 2.0 provides great opportunities to someone entering the workforce. It gives them hundreds of tools in searching and preparing for work, all in a matter of seconds. There are search engines that allow you to find any information you need, and companies are able to advertise to anyone, from anywhere in or out of the country. It also allows for immediate changes to a job description. For someone who is interested in a company, they can search the company's website to see pictures and access more information to see if the company is what they are interested in; all without ever leaving the computer.

How does it affect people who are already in the workforce?
Web 2.0 can be good and bad for those already in the workforce. With the recent introduction of all this technology, some employees may not be familiar with it, and could struggle in keeping up. However, sending out memos and such over the web and through email can help to make communication much more efficient and faster than before. Also, it allows employeers to check up on their employees and potential employees through tools such as Facebook and Myspace.

What do you think it means when it says that we will have to rethink everything?
I think that this ending statement really means that we just have to realize that everything is changing, and that we can access and do so many things that we didn't think we could before. Essentially, technology makes us think outside the box and makes us reconsider our own limitations and abilities.

About Me

Hey guys! My name is Lauren and this is my third year at Clemson as a Marketing major. I come from Northern Virginia, but love the South. I only have an older sister, who graduated from Clemson last year. I love listening to music, but have to admit I don't know much about it outside of what the radio plays. Sports are a passion of mine, and in high school I played volleyball, soccer and ran track. Now I love to play intramural sports including indoor soccer and volleyball with some of my best friends. I am living off campus, which I don't know if I like yet, but we shall see. Oh, and for good measure, I look forward to this business writing class- thanks for reading!
